I planned to post this entry last night but just as I was about to do so I realised that my camera battery needed charging. Sorry this is slightly late.
Earlier this week these beautiful mittens arrived on their long journey from Sweden. The knitting is really exquisite- top quality Swedish craftsmanship. They were hand knitted by Beibritt Risberg using the Two Ended Knitting method*. This is a technique used really only in Sweden or Norway. Thank you Beibritt. I am delighted with them and can't wait until the cooler weather to wear them and to test their wind proofness.
As I am tall and have long hands and fingers with a very large hand span, I always have a problem getting the fingers long enough in gloves. I prefer mittens and think that they are much cosier.
This is the reverse side.
To see further details of this wonderful knitting, please look at Ulla-Britt's blog: Ulla-Britt. A description of the course (in Swedish) which Beibritt holds can be found here Beibritt's course.

* Two-ended knitting or tvoaandsstrickning is perfected by using both ends of a ball of yarn, alternating the ends with which you knit and twisting the two ends around each other between every stitch. To generate ornamental effects on the surface of the knitting, sometimes one of the strands is brought forward and worked on top while the other remains in back. The yarn used for two-ended knitting is two-ply with a fairly tight twist.

Dear Zoe! Congratulations to the mittens. They look great whith the blue background of your pictures.
I have now updated the description of our cours with Beibritt. Thera are lots of new pictures. Unfortunately all text is in Swedish. But follow the links and you will find plenty of new pictures.

Dear Zoe! I'm so glad you went ahead and bought them. I agree! Are the not just wonderful? Sturdy, durable but still cosy and very warm. I'm sure Beibritt also felt very flattered. One of those local, humble and fantastic knitters.

I'm glad to see them fit just fine, and even seem to match your local sky. :o
As they are made for our climate, they will no doubt be warm enough.
